FAQ

Answers for curious cats

From upgrades to cancellations, here’s everything you need to know about keeping Catcord by your side.

How do I upgrade my plan?

Visit the checkout page from your dashboard and choose the premium tier or word package that suits your community. Changes apply immediately, and you can adjust again at any time.

Who receives DMs from Catcord?

The Discord server owner gets a one-time onboarding DM when Catcord joins. Admins listed in the dashboard can opt into operational DMs about quota usage or billing changes. Regular members never receive unsolicited DMs from Catcord.

How are translated words counted?

Catcord measures usage based on the number of words delivered after translation, not the character count of the source message. Every relay deducts from your active premium allowance before using purchased word bundles.

What happens if we hit our premium cap?

Premium subscriptions include hard monthly, weekly, or yearly word limits. Once those are exhausted, Catcord automatically consumes any active word packages. If you still need more, you can top up instantly without interrupting service.

Which payment methods do you accept?

We process payments through Stripe in 2025, supporting major credit and debit cards, SEPA direct debit, Apple Pay, and Google Pay for eligible regions.

Where can I download invoices and manage billing?

Invoices are generated automatically for every renewal and top-up. They note the VAT exemption under § 19 UStG. You can access them from the billing portal link in your dashboard, update billing details, or cancel upcoming renewals with a single click.

How does Catcord comply with the DSGVO?

We separate transient chat-relay content from stored account data. Relay text is processed in memory for translation delivery and not saved by Catcord after send-out. Stored categories include reminder definitions, broadcast notifications, usage/accounting events, and profile/billing metadata with category-specific retention windows documented in the privacy policy.

What about downtime or translation accuracy?

Catcord runs on AI-powered translation workflows and depends on Discord and payment providers. Short interruptions can happen during maintenance or upstream outages, and translations may contain errors. The terms of service explain how liability is limited for service interruptions and mistranslations.

How can I reach support?

Email support@catcord.app with your server ID and a brief description of the issue. Our support team responds within one business day.

Why does Catcord need Discord permissions?

Granting the requested scope ensures the bot can mirror conversations without human intervention. Here’s what each permission unlocks:

  • Manage Channels — lets Catcord spin up the paired translation channels and keep their permission overwrites in sync when you link languages.
  • View Channels — gives the bot read access to the spaces you invite it to so it can listen for source messages.
  • Send Messages & Send Messages in Threads — allow Catcord to post translated copies into linked channels and ongoing threads.
  • Embed Links & Attach Files — ensure translation cards keep their formatting and that forwarded attachments reach the mirrored channel intact.
  • Read Message History — lets the bot fetch the original content so it can produce accurate translations and avoid reposting duplicates.
  • Add Reactions — syncs emoji reactions between mirrored messages whenever reaction mirroring is enabled.
  • Use External Emojis & Use External Stickers — preserve the author’s emoji and sticker usage even when the target server doesn’t own those assets.
  • Manage Webhooks — enables impersonated mirror posts that keep the original author name and avatar.
  • Use Application Commands — powers the slash commands administrators use to configure channels and translation pairs.
  • Manage Threads & Create Public Threads — recreates discussion threads alongside the translated message so conversations stay organized.
